Posting Details

District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This position is in Santa Fe and will be within the District Five Campus /District Engineer's Office.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.

Why does the job exist?

The position will be responsible for incorporating broader administrative responsibilities and greater emphasis on public engagement, HR coordination, and employee recognition. Position will provide same-day responses to public inquiries on behalf of the District Five Engineer. This position role includes reviewing and approving job advertisements, coordinating with HR for timely processing, and assisting with the annual Service and Safety Awards and Employee Recognition Program by gathering data, preparing materials, and organizing presentations. There is also an increased focus on supporting the Assistant District Engineers with per diem reimbursements, training coordination, meetings, and correspondence management. These changes reflect a shift toward a more dynamic and involved role, requiring strong organizational, communication, and reporting skills, more suited to a Supervisor, Business Operations.
How does it get done?

Incumbent will Supervise two staff members. Incumbent will be the Asset Liaison for the District: Responsible for maintaining the Capital and Non-Capital Asset Inventory Module, ensuring accurate records of all assets within District Five. Incumbent will oversee the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) Process. Compile Data for Commission and Legislative Reports. And lastly, perform a variety of administrative duties such as processing per-diem requests, responding to public inquiries on behalf of the District 5 Engineer, filter inquiries to the proper staff members, create and maintain a database to track inquiries. Approve job advertisements submitted within the same day. Assist in gathering and completing the Annual Safety/Service awards working closely with Human Resources, Risk Management, and the Public Information Officer.

Minimum Qualification

Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and two (2) years of directly related job experience operating within parameters and guidelines in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage, computer, repeating the same hand finger motions many times such as typing. Interacting with co-workers and meeting deadlines. Be able to follow written and oral instructions. Occasional work beyond normal working hours may be required. In-state and out-of-state travel may be required.
