Position Overview
The Director of Construction oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy construction projects. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Construction, this role is responsible for managing project schedules, budgets, third-party contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual and technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead construction execution for utility-scale wind, solar, and BESS projects.
- Develop and manage project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and project stakeholders to maintain project timelines.
- Manage third-party contractors, vendors, and project performance.
- Identify project risks, resolve issues proactively, and manage change orders.
- Monitor construction quality, safety, and compliance with contracts, permits, and specifications.
- Review and approve invoices, budgets, cost-to-complete reports, and project documentation.
- Provide regular project updates to executive leadership.
- Collaborate with procurement on contractor selection and long-lead material planning.
- Interface with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and support project permitting.
- Lead and develop construction team members while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 15+ years of progressive construction management experience.
- Utility-scale wind and/or solar PV & BESS construction experience required.
- Proven leadership experience managing construction teams and contractors.
- Strong knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and contract management.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects in a fast-paced environment.
