Renewable Solar, Inc. (RSI) is a self-performing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company licensed in C-46, C-10, and General B, executing solar and electrical construction projects throughout California. RSI’s Electrical Division is expanding beyond solar into medium-voltage systems, electrical infrastructure, EV charging, and federal construction.
We are seeking an experienced Solar DC Wireman for a prevailing wage, contracted, project-based position in Bakersfield, California, supporting a rooftop solar project.
Position Summary
The Solar DC Wireman will perform and support the installation, troubleshooting, testing, and completion of electrical systems associated with rooftop and other solar PV projects.
Responsibilities include DC electrical distribution, installation of electrical equipment and conduit, cable management, terminations, troubleshooting, and support of systems serving inverters and other electrical equipment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with commercial, agricultural, or solar electrical systems, DC power distribution, conduit installation, underground electrical work, and utility interconnection.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Install and maintain DC electrical distribution systems associated with solar PV installations.
- Install and terminate DC wiring, conductors, connectors, combiner boxes, disconnects, and related electrical equipment.
- Install transformers, underground and above-ground conduit, switchgear, AC/DC inverters, and related electrical equipment as required by the project.
- Perform electrical work involving single- and three-phase systems, including 120/240 VAC, 120/208 VAC, 480 VAC, and medium-voltage systems, as qualified and assigned.
- Work with electrical services and equipment up to 3,000 amps, as applicable to project requirements.
- Support utility interconnection requirements and complete construction activities necessary for project energization.
- Read and interpret electrical plans, blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction drawings.
- Plan assigned work, identify required materials and equipment, and complete work according to project specifications and established schedules.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and identify and correct installation or operational issues.
- Work with the Electrical Engineering team to assist with design coordination and field refinement of plans.
- Coordinate with Team Leads, Construction Managers, Site Superintendents, and other project personnel to maintain project schedules.
- Follow all applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, prevailing wage requirements, project specifications, and company policies.
- Properly use and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform other electrical and construction-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Electrical certification or demonstrated experience as a qualified DC Wireman.
- Journeyman Electrician certification is preferred.
- Experience with commercial, agricultural, rooftop, or utility-scale solar electrical construction preferred.
- Experience with low- and medium-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with DC electrical systems, power distribution, conduit installation, and electrical terminations.
- Experience with underground electrical work and utility interconnection is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and one-line diagrams.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and resolve field issues.
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors, project managers, engineers, and other team members.
- Ability to work independently while following established safety and construction procedures.
- Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Prevailing Wage: This project is subject to applicable California prevailing wage requirements. Compensation will be administered in accordance with applicable prevailing wage laws and project requirements.
Physical & Work Environment
This position requires the ability to perform physical labor in outdoor and rooftop construction environments, including:
- Working in temperatures above 100°F and below 32°F.
- Working in rain, snow, wind, and other outdoor weather conditions.
- Working on rooftops and at elevated work areas.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and accessing elevated work areas.
- Working around electrical equipment, construction equipment, tools, and active job sites.
- Wearing required PPE for extended periods and under varying weather conditions.
- Following all applicable fall-protection and rooftop safety requirements.
Schedule & Overtime
Solar DC Wiremen are generally scheduled to work 40–45 hours per week, with core hours of Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM.
Additional hours may be required based on project schedules and business needs. Overtime and Saturday work, particularly during the summer construction season, may be frequent when necessary to meet contractual project deadlines.
Reporting Structure
Solar DC Wiremen report to the assigned Site Superintendent and Electrical Division Manager.
The Solar DC Wireman is expected to work collaboratively with the Electrical, Engineering, Safety, and Construction teams.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on applicable prevailing wage requirements, project requirements, experience, qualifications, and certifications. PW - Hourly pay rate: $82.01
Additional compensation or benefits may apply in accordance with the applicable project contract and company policies.
