What To Expect

Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting. Tesla moves quickly, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works alongside engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. We are seeking a highly motivated Quality Engineer to help drive improvements to manufacturing processes and develop our understanding of cell product performance. This MQE will partner with Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Production Engineering to develop validation plans, create defect samples, run trials and DOEs, and provide actionable data-driven paths to improve our programs. The role involves managing the full life cycle of trials from a quality perspective, including hands-on shopfloor work with production tools, data analysis & reporting, and change management.

You will be expected to work cross-functionally and support the identification and prioritization of potential product and process failures and help drive both corrective and preventative actions. This person is seasoned in manufacturing quality for high reliability applications such as Li-ion cells, medical or a similar field with several years’ experience.

  • Support quality validations during new cell launches with the goal of implementing quality improvements and exceeding build quality targets
  • Provide support during cross-functional review and roll-out of PFMEAs and create Control Plans for new cell or new equipment launches
  • Develop or setup new in-process inspections techniques including new measurement equipment Validations and Gage R&Rs
  • Support definition of quality and process requirements as a part of Tesla’s global operating standards
  • Partner with Design and Manufacturing Engineering counterparts to translate design requirements into functional quality controls that can withstand the demands of high-volume production
  • Support quality root cause investigations and resolutions as they relate to factory-controllable issues
  • Analyze manufacturing processes and product specifications to determine best practices that meet or exceed Tesla’s quality standards
  • Support the overall team in building and implementing appropriate quality audit standards and procedures

What You'll Bring- 3+ years’ hands-on experience in High Volume Manufacturing Quality

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
