Operations Planning and Analytics Engineer II-IV

Turn Grid Data into Analytics That Strengthen Planning and Operations

Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is seeking an Operations Planning and Analytics Engineer II-IV to develop analytical products, automated workflows, and applications that support Operations Planning. The role contributes to economic dispatch, production cost modeling, load and renewable forecasting, transmission analysis, and resource adequacy studies for GSOC and its Member cooperatives.

This is a hands-on engineering and analytics opportunity for candidates who enjoy solving complex operational problems with data, software, and power-system knowledge. Depending on level, the position will grow from contributing to established analytical solutions to independently owning complex workflows, applications, and technical projects.

This is an onsite position and it is not eligible for visa sponsorship

What You'll Do

As an Operations Planning and Analytics Engineer II-IV, you will help build, operate, and continuously improve analytical solutions that support grid planning and operational decision-making.

You will:

  • Design, develop, and support analytical solutions for solar and load forecasting, economic dispatch optimization, transmission congestion analysis, production cost modeling, and resource adequacy studies.
  • Develop and maintain data workflows, Python applications, SQL data models, and reporting solutions that support Operations Planning.
  • Apply engineering practices including version control, code review, testing, documentation, deployment, and Agile methods.
  • Monitor production analytics workflows for accuracy, performance, and availability and help resolve issues affecting analytical deliverables.
  • Build validation, monitoring, and error-handling into automated workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort through automation, process consolidation, and modernization of legacy tooling.
  • Maintain technical documentation, data lineage, and knowledge needed to support reliable, repeatable analytical processes.
  • Collaborate with Operations Engineering, Transmission Planning, Member Services, Information Technology, and Control Center teams to define requirements and deliver useful analytical solutions.
  • Translate complex analytical results into clear findings for technical and business audiences.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of third-party analytical software and contribute technical input to vendor-management activities.
  • Contribute technical documentation and analytical support for regulatory compliance and audit activities.
  • Evaluate emerging tools and techniques, including AI-assisted development, machine learning forecasting methods, and modern data-platform capabilities, where they can provide operational value.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related technical field. An equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered.
  • For Level II: 2+ years of relevant experience
  • For Level III: 4+ years of relevant experience
  • For Level IV: 6+ years of relevant experience with progressively deeper ownership of complex technical work.
  • Proficiency with Python and SQL appropriate to the level of the role, with the ability to develop maintainable analytical solutions.
  • Experience with Databricks or a comparable modern cloud data platform.
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, version control, testing, documentation, and Agile methods.
  • Knowledge of power-system operations concepts such as economic dispatch, load forecasting, transmission constraints, or production cost modeling, or the ability to develop this expertise.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and deliver reliably in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Power Systems & Utility Analytics

  • Experience delivering analytical solutions in a utility, energy, or comparably complex operational environment.
  • Familiarity with utility modeling and operational systems including SCADA and EMS.

Advanced Analytics & Development

  • Knowledge of energy optimization solutions, machine learning, or AI solutions, including forecasting or operational applications.
  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms and production analytical workflows.

Credentials & Compliance

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, or relevant technical certifications.
  • Experience supporting NERC, FERC, or SERC compliance activities.
