Descripción del puesto
You're already a beast at solar. Unlock your next achievement here.
We are in search of experienced rooftop solar installers who can lead a crew, organize a job, and deliver clean, efficient work—and who wants to become equally capable at electrical installations and battery backup.
At KW Solar, rooftop solar will account for no more than half your time. Your primary focus will be on electrical and battery backup work, with hands-on guidance from a Master Electrician as you learn. Currently, battery backup makes up the bulk of our projects.
Your solar experience is valuable here. You’ll put it to good use leading installations while developing skills that expand your responsibilities and earning potential.
Where you'll lead
- Lead rooftop PV installations, including layout, attachments, racking, module installation, and wire management.
- Plan the work, organize tools and materials, assign tasks, and keep the crew productive.
- Work alongside your crew and set the pace through your own effort and craftsmanship.
- Hold people accountable for safety, attendance, preparedness, and quality. Give clear direction and address problems promptly and respectfully.
- Learn and perform electrical and battery backup work under appropriate supervision, taking on more responsibility as your skills develop.
- Document completed work, progress, and open issues with clear photos and notes.
- Treat customers, their homes, and your coworkers with respect.
Where you'll grow
- Install battery backup systems, inverters, transfer equipment, and associated electrical gear alongside experienced electricians.
- Learn to lay out and install conduit, pull and terminate conductors, and make clean, organized connections.
- Develop your understanding of service equipment, panelboards, grounding and bonding, and how solar, batteries, generators, and the utility work together.
- Help configure, commission, and test systems—including verifying that backup power works when the grid goes down.
- Build troubleshooting skills: take measurements, interpret fault messages, identify problems, and work through solutions.
- Learn to read plans, follow manufacturer instructions, and apply electrical code requirements to the work in front of you.
- Help customers understand their equipment, monitoring apps, and what to expect during an outage.
Learning happens on the job and beyond it. We sponsor outside training so motivated people can build skills and earn relevant credentials on our dime. If you’re a go-getter who studies, asks questions, and puts new knowledge to work, we’ll support you in advancing quickly.
Who we’re looking for
You have substantial hands-on rooftop PV experience and can confidently guide an installation. Previous crew lead or foreman experience is preferred, but a good head and a great attitude are the most important attributes.
You should be able to:
- Recognize good installation work, catch mistakes, and explain how to correct them.
- Think ahead so the crew has the tools, materials, and direction it needs.
- Work safely and consistently on roofs, ladders, and outdoor jobsites in Houston conditions.
- Show up on time, prepared, and ready to work.
- Take feedback, ask useful questions, and learn unfamiliar systems.
- Lead people while remaining willing to do the hard parts yourself.
Electrical and battery experience is welcome, but it is not required. We’re looking for strong existing solar skills, sound judgment, and the motivation to keep learning.
You do not need an electrician license to apply, but once hired, all field employees are expected to maintain a valid Texas electrician license appropriate to their work. If you don’t already hold one, obtaining an apprentice license will be part of onboarding. Apprentices, residential wiremen, journeymen, and master electricians are welcome to apply.
High expectations. Real support.
We expect reliable attendance, steady effort, precise work, and honest communication. We expect crew leaders to take ownership of the job and help the people around them improve.
In return, you can expect clear standards, practical instruction, direct feedback, and opportunities to take on increasingly skilled work. You’ll have people to learn from and room to grow. We value questions, share what we know, and expect everyone to keep improving.
KW Solar is an ambitious, growing company. Capable people who earn trust and take responsibility will have an opportunity to help shape how we work and grow into larger roles.
