Salary Range: $135,000 to $178,000
- This position is eligible for the annual performance bonus plan.

Our Energy Group at CEI builds projects from the field to the grid. ABOUT THE ROLE
The Supervisor, Civil Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering support for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, with primary responsibility for civil and structural engineering scopes. This role supports project development, design review, estimating, procurement, and construction by ensuring third-party engineering designs meet project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
The position serves as a technical resource to project teams by performing engineering quality assurance reviews, supporting bid and proposal development, evaluating construction documentation, and assisting with resolution of complex civil and structural project issues. The Civil Engineer collaborates with engineers of record, contractors, project owners, and regulatory authorities to support successful project execution.
This role also contributes to the continuous improvement of engineering practices through value engineering initiatives and by mentoring and supporting the development of engineers within the renewable energy team.
- Provide technical leadership and engineering support for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, with primary responsibility for civil and structural engineering scopes.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of third-party engineered plans, specifications, and calculations to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Lead value engineering efforts and implementation of best practices to optimize civil and structural design solutions, improve constructability, and reduce project costs.
- Prepare and review material take-offs, quantity estimates, and technical inputs supporting project estimating, bid preparation, and client proposal development.
- Assemble and review construction documents, including drawings and technical specifications, for bid packages and project execution.
- Serve as a technical resource during project procurement and contracting, including bid evaluations, pricing and schedule input, and technical review of prime contracts and subcontract agreements.
- Provide technical guidance on complex civil and structural project issues, including change order development and validation, schedule optimization, subcontractor coordination, and environmental or site considerations such as vegetation management and habitat impacts.
- Ensure civil and structural designs and construction documentation comply with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and engineering standards.
- Participate in internal and external coordination meetings with engineers of record (EOR), general contractors, project owners, subcontractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Mentor, train, and support the development of engineers within the organization to strengthen technical capabilities in renewable energy infrastructure.
- Maintain professional licensure requirements and continuing education to stay current with evolving engineering standards, codes, and industry best practices.
ABOUT YOU
- Knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles applicable to utility-scale energy infrastructure
- Knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to review and evaluate engineering plans, specifications, and calculations for accuracy, compliance, and constructability
- Ability to support project estimating, proposals, and technical documentation development
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex civil and structural engineering issues during project execution
- Skill in coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities
- Skill in technical communication and documentation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines
- Ability to mentor and support the development of engineering staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
Licensure/Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with the ability to obtain and maintain licensure in multiple states.
Experience:
- 5–7 years of professional engineering experience, preferably with a civil/structural design firm, design-build contractor, or heavy civil general contractor, ideally supporting energy or renewable infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of current an ongoing development of relevant building codes and standards (i.e. ASTM, IBC, ACI, AISC and ASCE 7-16, etc.).
- Demonstrated time management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with project teams, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory authorities
