Job Purpose:

BPi is a commercial and industrial power and energy generation company (renewable energy, etc.) and roofing contractor based in Napa, California, growing toward an integrated EPC platform. We are hiring a Controller to serve as the senior in-house accounting lead, partnering directly with the CFO to strengthen the finance operating model as the business scales. This role owns accounting, tax, and payroll across multiple entities, leads the full accounting team, including remote and international team members, and drives accurate reporting, controls, job costing, and construction accounting discipline.

  • Occasional travel to Visalia will be required approximately every two to three months.

Reports to:

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own accounting, tax, and payroll functions across all entities
  • Lead the full accounting team, including remote and international team members, such as the South Africa-based group
  • Serve as the senior in-house accounting lead and primary internal point of contact for banks, tax, and external CPA matters
  • Own monthly and annual close across all entities
  • Own job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion, change orders, and project margin reporting in Sage 300 CRE
  • Oversee AP, AR, payroll processing, and internal controls
  • Lead multi-entity consolidation and JV equity-method accounting, working with the external CPA on correct setup
  • Partner with FP&A to deliver clean, timely actuals
  • Support Board reporting and executive financial insights

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Accounting or Finance degree
  • 7+ years senior accounting experience
  • Construction industry (GC) experience strongly preferred
  • Sage 300 CRE experience required or strongly preferred; comparable construction-specific accounting systems may include Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, or Foundation
  • Experience with construction accounting, including job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion, change orders, and project margin reporting
  • Multi-entity consolidation and equity-method or JV accounting experience
  • CPA strongly preferred; deep construction accounting and Sage 300 CRE experience may substitute for non-CPA candidates

Employment Type and Hours:

Full-time, exempt. Standard business hours with flexibility expected around month-end close, audit fieldwork, and reporting deadlines.

Performance Indicators:

  • Timeliness and accuracy of monthly and annual close
  • Effective management of the annual external CPA engagement
  • Implementation of internal controls and system improvements
  • Quality of actuals provided to FP&A and Board reporting
  • Development and accountability of the accounting team

Opportunity to lead and shape the accounting function as the business scales, with potential for expanded scope based on performance and business needs.

Tools/Software Used:

Sage 300 CRE (Job Cost, AP, AR, GL, Payroll), Miter (labor and expense), Microsoft Excel, Office Connector for Sage reporting, Procore (project management), and comparable construction accounting platforms where applicable.

Salary Band or Market-Related:

  • $165,000 - $195,000 base plus a 20% annual scorecard bonus tied to operational milestones
