The Role
Treaty Oak is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director, Transmission and Interconnection, to join our team. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep industry knowledge, superior communication skills, and detail-oriented organizational abilities. This role reports to the VP, Transmission and Interconnection and plays a critical part in leading interconnection strategy and execution for utility-scale solar and storage projects across multiple ISO and vertically integrated markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects through the interconnection process from project inception through Commercial Operation for utility-scale solar and storage projects in ISO markets (SPP preferred) and vertically integrated markets (WECC preferred).
- Evaluate transmission and interconnection strategies, tariffs, integrated resource plans, costs, timelines, queue positions, and processes across a variety of markets; provide strategy and recommendations to project teams.
- Coordinate all interconnection requirements including applications, studies, agreements, and post-IA project execution milestones.
- Negotiate interconnection study results and interconnection agreements with utilities toward favorable project outcomes.
- Lead communication and build relationships with utilities and ISOs; track interconnection progress to ensure timely and cost-effective project completion.
- Identify optimal interconnection locations in target markets based on cross-functional siting criteria.
- Track changes to interconnection tariffs, business practice manuals, and key transmission upgrades in target markets.
- Drive high-involvement participation in stakeholder and regulatory processes, representing the company in proceedings and working groups.
- Manage and coordinate consultant engagement across interconnection and transmission workstreams.
- Apply proficiency in Greenfield development and M&A processes to support project evaluation and acquisition diligence.
- Collaborate on interconnection milestones with cross-functional teams including Development, Land, Legal, Permitting, Finance, Procurement, HV Engineering, and Construction.
- Track milestones in interconnection agreements, security postings, and coordinate utility meetings for project design, engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Ability to read and negotiate complex legal contracts including Interconnection Agreements, Oversight Transfer Agreements, Facility Construction Agreements, Engineering and Procurement Agreements.
- Independently perform injection capacity studies, review powerflow cases, analyze contingency analysis results using a powerflow software
Education And Qualifications
- 8–10 years of relevant experience in interconnection, project development, or transmission planning.
- Experience at an IPP, utility, ISO/RTO, or consulting firm is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in one of PSSe, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA
- Demonstrated experience submitting projects into interconnection queues and executing LGIA processes.
- Familiarity with OASIS/OATI and atleast one economic modeling software (UPLAN,Promod, Probe or PLEXOS)
