Utility Construction Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Utility Construction Manager to lead field operations for our traveling utility-scale solar maintenance team. This position is responsible for overseeing preventative maintenance projects across utility-scale solar facilities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader with experience managing field crews, coordinating project schedules, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring compliance with all company and industry safety requirements. This role requires frequent travel to project sites throughout the United States.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of utility-scale solar preventative maintenance projects from mobilization through completion.
- Supervise and support field crews, foremen, and subcontractors to ensure safe and productive operations.
- Coordinate project schedules, manpower, equipment, and material needs.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with client specifications.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA, company, and customer safety policies.
- Perform routine site inspections to verify quality workmanship and compliance with project requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the client, field personnel, and company leadership.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular status updates and reporting.
- Identify and resolve field issues, scheduling conflicts, and operational challenges.
- Assist with workforce planning, employee development, and performance management.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, timesheets, inspections, and safety records.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and maintain exceptional customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing utility construction, utility-scale solar, renewable energy, or electrical construction projects.
- Previous supervisory or management experience leading field crews.
- Strong understanding of utility-scale solar operations and preventative maintenance practices preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
- Ability to read project drawings, specifications, and work scopes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Travel Requirements
- Extensive nationwide travel is required (up to 100%).
- Ability to work extended hours and rotating schedules as project needs require.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction or solar energy sites.
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 30 Construction
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- NFPA 70E (preferred)
- Utility-scale solar experience
- Heavy equipment certifications (preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working at heights and in varying environmental conditions.
