Job Overview:
This role will be an Operations & Survey Subject Matter Expert (SME) during the phases of engineering, planning, project kick-off, construction, and closeout. Survey General Superintendent will support projects in various phases of engineering and construction including a focus on ensuring projects are set up and prepared for construction. This individual must have the ability to build and leverage relationships with project supervision, construction, and engineering teams. This individual may be responsible for the care, custody and control of company-owned construction technology hardware such as drones, GPS units, etc. to which they are assigned. This individual has coaching & mentorship responsibilities for surveyors on site and survey analysts. This position can be remote or based out of the Denver office, with project and corporate office travel as needed or as directed by supervisor.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safety: Find and encourage the positive behaviors through their interactions. Endorse and support: “No business objective is so important that it will be pursued at the sacrifice of safety.”
- Pre-Construction Support:
- Initiate handoff from site investigation team to ensure understanding of site control, monuments, prior survey efforts, etc.
- Work with the Principal, Survey & Technology to review EOR survey control; assist with locating said control.
- Develop & maintain the survey verification/validation Scope of Work (SOW)
- Coordinate & manage survey equipment manufacturer/supplier and licensed surveyor(s) to ensure projects are set up correctly for equipment calibration and survey accuracy respectively prior to mobilization. Set up includes but is not limited to establishing a permanent base station, ensuring the proper measurement datums are understood and programmed (i.e. International Survey Foot, US Survey Foot, etc.), ensuring the proper settings are activated/deactivated (i.e. MSS CenterPoint, etc.).
- Operations Support:
- Develop & maintain survey work instructions for use by surveyors in the field to ensure their scope is clear and best practices are utilized including initial training, ongoing training as required, and enforcement of survey process and means & methods
- Ensure proper coordination of preconstruction project set up with project equipment at mobilization.
- Management of survey equipment inventory in a central location through the equipment group
- Complete site localization.
- Responsible for troubleshooting survey equipment as needed when issues arise. Performs Root Cause Analyses (RCA’s) and provides a report with findings/conclusions to Engineering, Operations, etc.
- Ensure proper GPS equipment (pile hammer, dozer, etc.) setup to facilitate project needs (i.e. pile as-builts, etc.), coordinate with Pile General Superintendent.
- Serve as a resource to the project teams and 3rd party engineering/surveying companies when issues arise.
- Support building drone-based topographic survey capabilities either within or in support of Operations for construction activities
- Other duties as directed by supervisor.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- A four-year Bachelor’s degree in a related subject or equivalent combinations of training and/or related experience.
- 5-8 years in construction and/or survey industry.
- Candidate needs to have the ability to understand, interpret, and convert the civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical construction prints into a 3D environment.
- Field work experience of using survey techniques as well as familiarity with pile drivers, motor graders, and bulldozers utilized in the performance of the company’s work.
- A working knowledge of GIS, LiDAR, GPS and other technologies is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to travel with overnight stays to the area of work.
- Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of CAD programs (Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, Civil3D, etc.)
- Strong communication skills to convey concerns, analytical data, and job constraints.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to read and understand prints and contract documents.
- Candidates with mentorship & training experience are preferred

- Salary $185,000 annually, dependent on experience, qualifications, and competencies.

- Must comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).
- Must pass a physical exam if required.
- Able to:
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations).
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (Use assistance for heavier loads).
- Stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).
- Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE when required.
