Overview of Position | Solar Field Technician  

We're looking for a field technician, a sharp, self-directed problem solver motivated to help run day-to-day field operations, with support, training, and direction from the NuGen team. 

This is a full-time, all-in role, that carries meaningful responsibility. You'll be an integral part of a lean, hands-on team, helping manage the assets, having real say in how the work gets done, and growing into as much responsibility as you can carry. 

If you care about the work, are prepared to put in the effort, are good with your hands, comfortable working independently, and a strong problem solver, read on. 

Key Responsibilities | What you’ll do: 

• Drive your territory and keep “our” sites generating, you are the boots on the ground. 
• Troubleshoot and fix inverters, combiners, and related equipment; diagnose underperformance. 
• Work with our systems and process to help keep our assets operating at their peak performance. 
• Handle routine site upkeep: basic electrical, some vegetation management and site access. 
• Coordinate with on-site contacts and specialty vendors when a job needs more hands. 
• Help track inventory and spare parts and stay on top of reporting. 
• Approx ½- 1 day per week in the office, face time with the team, strategic thinking, and digging into monitoring and reports. 
• Be our eyes and ears, flag and fix what you see to truly maximize production. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications | What we are really looking for: 

We care more about the person than a specific resumé.  

The non-negotiables are:  you are excited to learn, you are mechanically intuitive, you are self-motivated to do the work and take pride in your performance. 

• Territory: Ability to travel throughout New England, with periodic travel to NJ sites. 
• Physical requirements: must be able to lift 50 pounds. 
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. 

You are probably a fit if you have a background in any of these: 

• Solar O&M, field service or construction 
• Electrical work (licensed electrician, helper, or apprentice) 
• HVAC / mechanical service and diagnostics 
• Wind turbine technician work 
• Telecom / cell-tower field service 
• Military electrical, generator, or aviation/equipment maintenance (transitioning service members 
• encouraged to apply) 
• Any comparable hands-on trade where you have solved problems 

Nice to have (but we will teach the solar part to the right person): 

• Familiarity with PV inverters and related solar equipment 
• OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, or relevant electrical safety training
