Position Overview

Solar.com is looking for an experienced, highly organized, and technically proficient Senior Solar and Energy Storage Project Manager to own our residential project pipeline from contract signing all the way through final Permission to Operate (PTO).

In this role, you are the ultimate owner of the customer journey and project execution. You are not just overseeing tasks, you are the central hub coordinating third party design and permitting partners, wholesale distributors, local installation crews, municipal jurisdictions, and Southern California utility companies. If you are a proactive problem solver who thrives on managing moving parts and delivering a seamless customer experience, we want you on our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Initiation and Onboarding: Take the handoff immediately after contract signing, introduce yourself as the customer's dedicated point of contact, and coordinate with site surveyors to gather precise on site data.

  • Design and Permitting Management: Work closely with our third party engineering and design partners to generate accurate plan sets. Submit, track, and secure permit approvals from various Southern California Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

  • Utility Interconnection: Own the utility interconnection application process from start to finish. Navigate portals, submit documentation, and push for fast approval with Southern California Edison (SCE), Glendale Water and Power, Burbank Water and Power, Pasadena Water and Power, and other municipal utilities.

  • Supply Chain and Logistics: Coordinate with our wholesale distributors to order project materials and ensure perfect timing for dropshipping direct to the job site.

  • Crew and Construction Management: Schedule, dispatch, and manage our installation crews. Ensure they have the necessary details, safety protocols, and materials on site for a flawless install.

  • Customer Relations Act as the primary, empathetic, and professional face of the company for the homeowner. Provide proactive weekly updates, manage scheduling expectations, and handle any incoming inquiries.

  • Trade Coordination: Coordinate with other trades to make the residence solar ready for any additional scopes required, including trenchwork, roofing, and structural upgrades.

  • Project Feasibility and Cost Assessment: Determine whether a project is actionable without additional work that could incur change orders or cost absorption. If additional costs or work are required, discuss mid project construction related change orders directly with the client.

  • Customer Escalations: Handle customer escalations and discuss the technical aspects of a project directly with customers and energy advisors.

  • Problem Solving and Change Management: Act as the first line of defense for on site surprises, engineering adjustments, or municipal corrections. Confidently price, draft, and execute change orders when necessary.

  • Inspections and Closeout: Schedule municipal inspections, coordinate on site corrections if needed, submit final documents to utilities, and secure Permission to Operate.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience: 4 or more years of hands on project management experience in residential or commercial solar and energy storage

  • Southern California Utility Expertise: Proven track record navigating the interconnection processes of SCE, Pasadena Water and Power, Glendale Water and Power, Burbank Water and Power, and adjacent municipal utilities

  • Technical Product Knowledge: Strong technical understanding of rooftop solar mounting systems and next generation battery storage systems, specifically Tesla Powerwall 3 and Enphase (10C / 5P) ecosystem setups

  • Jurisdiction Familiarity: Deep familiarity with Southern California building departments, permitting processes, and local NEC requirements

  • Logistics Savvy: Experience managing equipment ordering, wholesale distributors, and job site logistics including dropshipping coordination

  • Leadership and Communication: Outstanding customer service, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage both homeowners and installation crews with equal confidence

  • Proactive Mindset: A get it done attitude. When a project hits a snag with a city inspector or utility reviewer, you know who to call to resolve it

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary of $75,000 to $125,000, weighted to match your experience, industry certifications, and proven utility relationships
  • Stock options
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance options
  • A supportive, fast paced environment where your ownership directly impacts company growth

Why This Role Matters

Solar.com Direct is built on a simple idea: customers should get one dedicated person who owns their project from start to finish, not a rotating cast of subcontractors and call center reps. This role is at the center of that promise. You will be the person who makes sure every customer's experience matches what we tell them to expect when they sign, and you will be directly responsible for helping us build a world class Net Promoter Score in an industry where trust is often in short supply.
