The Renewables Technician is responsible for supporting utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites across a growing renewable energy fleet. This position supports operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, reliability improvements, and equipment modifications while serving as a technical resource for both existing and newly commissioned renewable facilities. The Tech III will also provide guidance, training, and mentorship to Renewables Tech I and II employees.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, inverter, SCADA, battery storage, communications, and equipment-related issues
- Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on Solar PV and BESS equipment
- Support commissioning, startup, and turnover activities for new renewable sites
- Perform and lead Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) activities
- Conduct daily operational rounds and inspections
- Support equipment testing, performance monitoring, and reliability improvements
- Coordinate contractors, technicians, and engineers to support maintenance and project activities
- Communicate with operations centers regarding plant status, outages, and maintenance activities
- Participate in rotational on-call support
- Prepare maintenance, repair, and service reports
- Develop and improve O&M processes and site procedures
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, operational, and regulatory requirements
- Train, mentor, and develop Renewables Tech I and Tech II employees
Must Haves:
- 3+ years of electrical maintenance, Solar PV, BESS, power generation, utility, or industrial electrical experience
- Strong electrical troubleshooting experience (AC/DC)
- Inverter experience
- SCADA experience
- LOTO experience
- Experience reading electrical drawings and schematics
- Experience using electrical test and measurement equipment
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to travel 50%+ regionally
- Must successfully complete the MASS and/or POSS assessment

- Fiber optic troubleshooting experience
- NERC/BES site experience
- Electrical design experience
- Power distribution systems knowledge
- National Electrical Code (NEC) knowledge
- Technical degree, military electrical training, or equivalent
- Experience training and mentoring technicians
Working Conditions:
- Field-based role supporting multiple renewable generation sites
- Greater than 50% regional travel with occasional overnight travel
- Rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call support as needed
- Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including direct sunlight and high temperatures
- Must be able to wear required PPE
- Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, stand, walk, and work around energized equipment
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Must live within approximately one hour / 30 miles of assigned service area
- 275-pound equipment-related weight restriction applies
