Position Summary
Erthos is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and technically proficient Senior Project Engineer to play a pivotal role in the successful design, engineering, and execution of our utility-scale Earth Mount Solar™ projects. Reporting to the Senior Manager - Project Engineering, this position serves as a vital conduit between various teams including engineering, project management, construction, and field operations ensuring seamless coordination from concept through commissioning.
The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for driving technical accuracy, constructability, construction permitting and design optimization throughout all project phases. This includes supporting early-stage project development with technical feasibility assessments, contributing to system design and drawing reviews, coordinating with internal and external engineering resources, and supporting construction teams with real-time problem-solving during project execution. The role also entails supporting system commissioning and ensuring final installations align with Erthos design standards and performance expectations.
Success in this role requires a balance of analytical thinking and practical execution, coupled with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Ideal candidates will be self-starters with a strong foundation in utility scale solar engineering principles, a deep commitment to quality and attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. This is a high-impact role that offers direct visibility into the full lifecycle of groundbreaking solar projects.
Candidates must be willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time to support field engineering efforts and ensure technical alignment across all phases of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Execution
- Manage and oversee project engineering team-level execution, expediting engineering deliverables to support project schedules and contractual requirements.
- Translate project requirements into technical deliverables and maintain alignment with scope, budget, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with all stakeholders to identify key project constraints.
- Accountable for all project engineering and field engineering duties, ensuring project teams are executing within the proper team processes and standards.
- Contribute to the development of engineering standards, best practices, and templates to drive continuous improvement across projects.
Design Review & Technical Support
- Review prime contract and subcontract technical scopes of work, coordinating with owners and subcontractors to execute projects.
- Coordinate technical reviews of electrical, civil, and structural design packages to ensure constructability, code compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Assist in the review and approval of vendor submittals and material specifications for compliance with project standards.
- Oversee, manage, and develop the Project and Field Engineering staff, ensuring high-quality execution of all departmental duties. Lead by example and serve as a mentor to the greater project team by demonstrating and teaching core competencies in rigorous due diligence, strong documentation, communication, and leadership.
Regulatory & Permitting Compliance
- Support permitting efforts by reviewing design packages for adherence to local building codes, AHJ requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Represent Erthos in meetings with regulatory bodies, AHJs, and other key external stakeholders as required.
- Develop, prepare and submit all kinds of construction permit applications, proactively identify permitting constraints, informing project managers actively of key engineering and permitting constraints.
- Maintain and develop various permitting tools such as permit trackers, regulatory compliance plans, third-party consultant scopes of work.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field), OR equivalent experience in utility-scale solar installation.
- 4+ years of direct field experience in utility scale solar.
- Direct experience conducting project development due diligence, and success obtaining construction permits for utility-scale projects.
- Proficient knowledge of utility-scale PV system components and construction sequencing.
Location and Travel Requirements
This is a full-time, remote role with travel currently required to Erthos construction sites across the U.S., and potentially internationally in the future. Candidates must be willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time, with site assignments occurring during critical phases of construction and commissioning.
Compensation and Benefits
- Our base salary will be commensurate with your level of solar project engineering experience that you bring to this role. However, we are targeting a base salary of up to approximately $125,000.
