Excavator Operator

Job Summary

Commercial Solar Solutions (CSS Solar) is seeking a skilled Excavator Operator to join our growing team in Orangeburg, SC. In this role, you will operate excavators and other heavy equipment to support commercial solar installation projects. This position is ideal for experienced operators who enjoy working outdoors, value safety, and are interested in building a long-term career in the renewable energy industry.

Projects typically last 12–18 months, and candidates must be willing to travel to new project locations as assignments change.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators safely and efficiently on commercial solar construction sites.
• Excavate, move, and level earth for trenches, foundations, and other site preparation activities.
• Load and transport materials as needed using heavy equipment.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance.
• Identify and report mechanical issues or equipment concerns.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure project success.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment on uneven or challenging terrain.
• Must be able to travel to remote project locations every 12–18 months.
• Reliable transportation to and from the job site is required.
• Ability to work overtime when needed.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in an active construction environment.

Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Proven experience operating excavators in a construction environment.
• Basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Experience working safely around construction crews and heavy equipment.
• Experience in solar or utility construction is a plus, but not required.
