BESS Field Project Engineer
Location: San Antonio, TX
Reports to: Project Execution Manager
Overview
A renewable energy organization specializing in utility-scale battery storage and power
generation projects is seeking a Field Project Engineer to support on-site construction and
commissioning activities for a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project in
San Antonio. This role provides hands-on field experience, cross-functional collaboration,
and opportunities for professional growth within an active project environment.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Project Execution Manager, the Field Project Engineer acts as the on-site
engineering representative, supporting construction oversight, technical coordination, quality
assurance, and project reporting in alignment with contract requirements, design documents,
and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
• Support daily on-site construction activities, coordination, and issue resolution for a
utility-scale BESS project.
• Review contracts, change orders, and amendments to ensure proper field
implementation.
• Develop and track construction schedules, ensuring alignment with project
milestones.
• Monitor construction progress to confirm compliance with approved designs and
specifications.
• Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure adherence to safety, quality,
and contractual requirements.
• Manage RFIs, non-conformance reports (NCRs), submittals, and field change
requests.
• Verify contractor compliance with safety standards, quality expectations, and project
timelines.
• Collaborate with project leadership to resolve technical issues and design
clarifications.
• Prepare daily and weekly reports covering progress, safety observations, and potential
risks.
• Conduct routine site inspections to ensure proper workmanship and safety
compliance.• Participate in testing, inspections, and project acceptance activities.
• Monitor jobsite conditions for hazards and report safety concerns.
• Identify and communicate risks related to schedule, cost, safety, and constructability.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including logs, reports, and turnover
records.
• Track onsite materials and ensure proper storage and handling.
• Support implementation of construction procedures, safety standards, and technical
requirements.
• Assist in verifying contractor health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance.
• Ensure quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes are properly executed
onsite.
• Support oversight of quality control personnel as needed.
• Prepare progress, safety, and quality reports to inform project management decisions.
• Confirm that construction procedures and standard work instructions support quality
execution.
• Verify that inspection and testing equipment is properly calibrated and documented.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in active construction environments and travel to project sites as
required.
